In fewer than 2 business days, 110 QUFA members chose to opt out of the Copibec lawsuit against Laval University (and its faculty employees) for copyright infringement!
Laval, like many other Canadian post-secondary institutions, already pays high fees to use published work and should not have to pay more to a private concern for fair dealing privileges. QUFA collated your responses and sent them by courier and email to the appropriate parties with copies to the Canadian Association of University Teacher and to the Syndicat des Professeurs et Professeures de L’Université Laval (Laval University Professors’ Union). Our letter to Copibec is attached here. Stay tuned for a QUFA event later this term to talk about what is happening with the review of the copyright act later this year and what impact it might have on teaching and research.
